Royal Sussex County Hospital says it hopes to save around £21,000 after replacing traditional fixtures with LEDs.
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust commissioned Light Planet to implement the changes within the hospital. The Trust cited LEDs as "a technology that offered considerable energy and cost savings with minimal disruption to the building."
Light Planet has previously carried out projects with Winchester University, GlaxoSmithKline and the University of Bath.
Steve Edwards, technical director at Light Planet said, "With the healthcare sector facing a challenging combination of ambitious carbon reduction commitments and increasingly restricted budgets, the appeal of energy-efficient lighting solutions is stronger than ever."
As well as aiming to achieve significant savings of £21,000, the Trust hopes to reduce energy consumption by 68 per cent.
Several areas of the building were picked out to undertake the energy saving project. The car parks, offices, washrooms and corridors have all been replaced with LEDs.
The prediction is that the car park floodlights will need to be replaced every seven years as opposed to the previous two years with conventional lamps.
This area alone facilitates a major reduction in energy and maintenance bills and will achieve a saving of around £17,000.
Barry Kearton, PFI estates manager of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust, said, "The LED retrofit has delivered not only the cost savings that we hoped to achieve but also has made a valuable contribution towards reducing our energy consumption in line with the Trust's low-carbon ambitions."
