The UK government and France's Electricite de France reached an agreement, permitting the French power giant to build a nuclear power station in UK hand in hand with Chinese partners.
It will be the first nuclear power station construction in the UK in the latest 30 years.
Electricite de France plans to build two nuclear reactors in Hinkley Point in the southwest of England. The new nuclear power plant is predicted to cost about GBP 14 billion.
Sources disclose that the French company holds 45% to 50% interest in the project.
Two Chinese companies including China General Nuclear Power Group will jointly own 30% to 40% of the project; Areva, France's nuclear reactor supplier, will take about 10% equities.
