After a positive response from the land and Environment Court, it is clear that LKAB be allowed to start operations in the open pit mine Gruvberget in Svappavaara.
Mr Per-Erik Lindvall, LKAB's director of technology and business development said that this is a good news and a nice Christmas present for the district, employees, contractors, and throughout our company. Tomorrow we start the business again.
It was in early June this year that the news came that the Supreme Court denied leave to appeal for LKAB's appeal against the Land and Environment Court over rejection of its application for a separate state for the open pit Gruvberget in Svappavaara. Thus, a common environmental permit for LKAB's mining and processing activities at the resort. Operations at the newly opened mine stopped immediately.
Now it is clear that LKAB be allowed to start operations in Gruvberget in even a partial judgment in the context of the overall review of LKAB's operations in Svappavaara already underway. It was during Thursday morning as the positive news came from the Land and Environment Court.
Mr Per-Erik Lindvall said that this is an important step forward and we are excited to get started after a 6 month stop.
