The Bicycle Industry in Taiwan Has Been Obvious Growing Recently

Taipei,Sept.12,2012(CENS)--Influenced by duty-reduction allowed under the cross-strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement(ECFA)and continually rising demand in China,the bicycle industry in Taiwan has been obvious growing recently.

According to Merida Bikes,a major bicycle maker in Taiwan,its original brand manufacturing(OBM)of"MERIDA"in China sold 618,773 bikes,up sizably 61%year on year(YoY)in the first eight months,with cumulative revenues of RMB 1.022 billion(US$170.345 million),skyrocketing 79%YoY,and average selling price(ASP)up 11%YoY.

Merida sold in August via its three major plants in Taiwan,Shenzhen,Southern China,and Shandong,Northeastern China,258,312 bikes,rising 20.98%YoY,a new monthly high,with first-eight-month volume of 1.552 million bikes,increasing 18%YoY,August revenues of NT$2.62 billion(US$87.339 million),surging 32.68%,a monthly high.

 

Institutional investors predict the sales target in China to be 800,000 bikes,soaring 50%from last year's 555,000,with next year's goal to be one million units,to drive Merida's revenues and profits in 2013.

Merida Taiwan focuses on exports to Europe and North America,having shipped in August 57%of total export to Europe and 20%to the United States,indicative of recovery in both markets.

Institutional investors add that the third quarter being the peak season for bike exports in Taiwan,and Merida expects a bright second-half based on fully booked production lines.
