Athos, a California-based firm, has launched a technology-enhanced workout attire, capable of monitoring muscle activity. Incorporated with EMG sensors, the athletic garment, which includes a full-sleeve shirt and stretchy pants, can give exact details about muscle exertion, heartbeat and breath rates, recorded during workout sessions. Available in sizes ranging from extra small to extra large, the sensor-embedded gear seeks information from 22 muscle groups and sends it to the Core wearable module which later transfers the data to an iOS 7-installed iPhone or iPad device. In addition to monitoring heart rate and muscle effort, the new smart gym apparel will also enable the user to maintain right body balance as well as would give separate information on the time spent on cardio and fat burning exercises. Located in Redwood City, Athos was founded by two engineering students from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
