The neighboring area of Taipei Songshan Airport will be transformed into a new commercial complex,as the government has decided to have private developer construct such a complex on a plot of land spanning five hectares in space,including the existing site for the headquarters of Civil Aeronautics Administration(CAA),the Ministry of Transportation and Communications,via BOT(build-operate-transfer)method.The project,which calls for investment of NT$30-40 billion,will create some NT$100 billion of annual output value and several thousands of job opportunities.
CAA held the first explanation session for the project yesterday(Nov.28),which attracted 108 domestic and foreign enterprises to attend.
At the session,Ding Ting-yu,deputy Taipei mayor,pledged that the Taipei City government will do its best to support the development of the project,in the fields of urban planning and administrative procedures,in the hope that the project and the C1 and D1 twin-tower project neighboring Taipei railway station can form into twin national gateways,creating more job opportunities and economic benefits for Taipei city.
CAA plans to publicly solicit general consultant for the project early next year and complete solicitation of investors by the end of 2014 before starting the construction works in 2015.The projected commercial complex will include commercial facilities,aviation-related industrial area,exhibition center,business hotel,and office buildings.Meanwhile,the landscape and facilities in front of Songshan Airport will be renovated,creating a brand new image for the airport.
CAA pointed out that Songshan Airport has been positioned as a"domestic air transportation hub and capital commercial airport"and the neighborhood will be developed into a small aviation airport.Following launch of flights to/from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport,Tokyo Haneda Airport,and Seoul Kimpo Airport and initiation of commercial planes,Songshan Airport has greatly strengthened its commercial function and is expected to accommodate 3.08 million passenger/trips for domestic flights and 2.7 million passenger/trips for international flights this year,racking up combined growth of 9.89%.
CAA expressed that Songshan Airport will join forces with the projected commercial complex in the neighborhood to attract more Taiwanese and foreign enterprises to set up operational centers or corporate headquarters in Taipei.
