Reportedly, the Taiwanese stainless steelmakers including Yieh United Steel Corp. (Yusco) and Tang Eng are going to release June list prices this week.
It’s said that the stainless producers planned to remain June list prices unchanged for June. However, they’ve faced pressure to cut prices due to weak nickel prices and low-priced imports.
The nickel prices have kept falling to break US$15,000/ton recently, hitting the lowest level since June, 2009.
At present, the nickel prices averaged at around US$15,000/ton, decreasing by US$600/ton from the US$15,600/ton in April.
Nevertheless, as the New Taiwanese Dollars have depreciated recently, the steelmakers’ input costs may not drop as much as the nickel prices.
Thus, the Taiwanese stainless producers will observe the market situation to decided price policy for June.
