Taiwan projector market to show flat growth in 2012 Julian Ho,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Monday 7 May 2012]Taiwan's projector market is expected to be flat in 2012 compared to 2011 due to uncertain order visibility,according to industry sources.
The projector market in Taiwan is about 80,000-100,000 units large.Due to the early Lunar New Year holiday in 2012,customers postponed purchases to March.The market believes the first quarter will be the best quarter for projectors in 2012 because demand is likely to wane in the second quarter due to the tax season and rising utilities prices.Furthermore,projects with large volumes have been dwindling since the end of 2011 which is likely to cause flat market growth for 2012.
Riding the wave of energy-saving awareness,Taiwan-based projector brand BenQ is optimistic about sales of its projectors which include smart functions in the business projector market.This particular series of products is expected to show sales growth of 60%in Europe.
According to BenQ,the firm's projector business has been cooperating with distribution channels since the end of 2011 to increase share in markets such as schools and businesses.March shipments grew by 50%and overall shipments in the first quarter showed growth of 25-30%.The firm is aiming to become the second-largest projector brand in Taiwan in 2012.
BenQ's new projector feature SmartEco technology that can save 70%of electricity consumed by the light bulb.On average,the technology can save 45%of electricity consumed by the projector.
BenQ's projectors(LED and DLP types)had 11-12%of global market share at the end of 2011.
