CSC Has Decided to Bring Forward Maintenance Work on Its Largest Blast Furnace

Taiwan's steel producer China Steel Corp. (CSC) has decided to bring forward maintenance work on its largest blast furnace to September 1st.

Originally, the planned maintenance was for end of last year, but in June last year, the company decided to postpone the shut down until 2014.

The company was predicting a good 2013 so decided to postpone the maintenance, but poor performances in the steel market this year led to the decision to bring the maintenance forward.

The maintenace work is scheduled for CSC's No.4 blast furnace which has an annual capacity of 2.64 million tons per year.

It is reported that the maintenance will result in a loss of about 10% of CSC's hot metal production.
