Demand for Brazilian elliotis pine plywood has picked up in Europe since mid-October after initially sluggish business. Importers have now bought large amounts against next year‘s duty-free quota for softwood plywood imports into the EU in recent weeks after entering into preliminary deals with their customers, notably timber trading co-operatives. However, purchases against the quota have so far been smaller than last year, according to the majority of sources. A number of importers have apparently split their orders into smaller batches. Agents and importers feel that this approach might lead to more consistent business over the coming months.
