Food safety law firm Ron Simon & Associates is suing poultry products firm Foster Farms for allegedly selling tainted chicken.
The law firm, along with local counsel Gomez Trial Attorneys of San Diego, filed a lawsuit claiming that Foster Farms has been selling the Salmonella-contaminated chicken for years despite numerous warning letters from federal health officials that the chicken would injure the public.
It also stated that Foster Farms was aware about the contamination.
More than 600 illnesses were reported associated with the consumption of tainted chicken across the nation.
Consumption of tainted Foster Farms chicken caused 46 Salmonella Heidelberg illnesses in 2004, followed many such outbreaks in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Lead attorney Ron Simon said: "For years, despite repeated warnings from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and USDA, Foster Farms refused to recall or even warn the public about its contaminated chicken while that chicken was poisoning hundreds of consumers.
"This litigation will examine those decisions and hold Foster Farms accountable for its egregious behavior."
