Four Types of Solutions Available to Control Corrosion Related Issues

Many industry owners have to undergo losses or make huge expenditure on repairing and maintaining the machines and other industry items because of corrosion. If you too are an industry owner and are looking for ways to cut down your industry expenses and protect your machines from corrosion, then this article will tell you about different corrosion control systems and methods that will help you to keep your machines and other industry items safe.

At present times there are basically four types of solutions available to control corrosion related issues. These include:

Use of materials that are resistant to corrosion

Make use of paints or protective coatings to keep your machines safe from corrosion

Use of cathodic protection as an efficient corrosion control system

Make modifications in the operating environment.

In most of the industries, two or more of these corrosion control systems or methods are used to overcome the problem caused by corrosion. Let us have a look at these one by one.

The first solution to overcome the problem of corrosion in industries is to use materials which are not prone to corrosion. However, since there is no such material that can remain prone to corrosion in all the industrial and natural environments, a choice should be made wisely after studying the environment where it is to be installed.

The next effective and easy way to protect your industry machinery from corrosion is to apply painting or protective coatings over them. In fact it is known to be one of the most widely used and affordable way to deal with corrosion efficiently. The protective coatings do not allow the surface of metals to come in contact with the environmental factors that lead to corrosion. However, it is suggested that to make this method effective and full proof, it should be combined and used with other corrosion control systems and methods.

Cathodic protection is the third method used to overcome the problem of corrosion. This system works by interfering the action of the electrochemical cells, which cause corrosion. This method can be used effectively to control corrosion especially of those surfaces which are immersed in water or have an exposure to soil.

Last but not the least, corrosion can also be controlled efficiently by modifying the operating environment in industries. For example, usage of corrosion inhibitors in engine cooling systems and power plants can prove effective in controlling corrosion.
