ICT Sectors Between Taiwan and Mainland China Recently Singed Several Agreements

Information-communications technology(ICT)sectors between Taiwan and mainland China recently singed several agreements that are estimated to create multibillion NT dollars of business opportunities for Taiwanese suppliers and will enhance cooperation on standard setting.

ICT industries of the two sides recently held conferences in Beijing and Changsha of mainland China on cooperation deals.

According to president of the Taiwan government-backed Industrial Technology Research Institute(ITRI),J.M.Hsu,who was an attendee of the Beijing meeting,the central theme of this meeting was the collaboration on venturing into global market and creating business opportunities.

Industry executives estimated the mainland's ICT sector will purchase around NT$200 billion(US$6.6 billion at US$1:NT$30)worth of equipment from Taiwan's suppliers,increasing by 25%from last year.The products include consumer-end mobile devices,network-connectivity equipment,wireless chips,communication-equipment power supplies,cloud servers and eco-friendly data centers.

Among the prominent mainland Chinese buyers are Huawei Technologies Co.,Ltd.,ZTE Corp.,Chain Mobile,China Unicom and China Telecom.

In the Beijing conference,the two sides also emphasized enhancing cooperation between TD-LTE supply chains of the two sides,with opening TD-LTE laboratories and filed-test networks in Taiwan on the drawing board.

China Telecom Vice President Miao Jianhua,who is also the incumbent secretary general of the China Association of Communications Enterprises,said Taiwan-made TD-LTE products will be able to directly enter the mainland's distribution channels after completing tests on the filed-test networks and passing examinations at the laboratories.

In the Changsha conference,the two sides signed two memorandums of understanding to foster cooperation on fourth-generation mobile standards and certification laboratories,and concluded nine common standards for industries including LED,flat-panel display,and photovoltaic.
