Qian Keming: Chinese Foreign Trade Is Benefiting the Countries along the Line of “the Belt and Road”

Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming said in Xi’an on September 16 that Chinese foreign trade has topped the world list since this year and is benefiting the countries along the line of “the Belt and Road”.

Qian declared his opinions when attending the press conference of the 14th SCO Trade and Economic Ministers’ Meeting closed on that day. During this meeting, all parties reached 9 specific measures focusing on implementing the important achievements gained at the SCO UFA summit in July.

Qian pointed out that in order to resist the economic downturn, all countries within the region successively introduced the new policies and the industrial development plans which highly tally with the spirit of “reinforcing the constitutive property and accelerating implementing the innovative-driven development strategy” proposed by China. At present, efforts are being made to fully dock and carry out the top-level design for expanding and deepening the cooperation.

Qian said that at present, more and more unstable and uncertain factors appear in the world economy. As the major economy and biggest trading country, China has enabled its economy to profoundly integrate with the world economy. Although the external environment still exerts great influence on the Chinese foreign trade and even on the whole economy, Chinese economy in general still maintains a stable situation.

Qian said that in the first half of 2015, the gross domestic product increased 7%, still topping the world list. The structure adjustment has shown obvious effect and China has been the largest e-retailing market in the world in two consecutive years. The contribution rate of consumption driving economy has been improved day by day.

Qian emphasized that China is still the major engine of the world economic growth, contributing 30% to it. Since this year, Chinese foreign trade has topped the world list, functioning as the important stabilizer of the international trade and benefiting the countries along “the Belt and Road”. In 2014, China became the second largest direct foreign investment country and the countries along the line of “the Belt and Road” are the hot regions for Chinese enterprises to invest overseas, accounting for 20% of the FDI. As the new pattern of the overseas investment of Chinese enterprises, the constructive effects of the trade and economic zones along the countries of “the Belt and Road” are remarkable, promoting the development of employment and industries, creating new supply chains and value chain and deepening the industrial integration between China and countries within the region.

Qian said that both in the long run and in mid-term perspective, the further reform and structure adjustment of China will stimulate bigger development dividends. China is willing to take the opportunity of jointly constructing “the Belt and Road” to strengthen the bilateral and regional economic cooperation with all countries based on the principle of being sincere, pragmatic and open, and contribute positive energy to accelerating the economic development of the region, inject new power and realize the common development by docking the development strategies, exploring the cooperative potentials and creating the cooperative opportunities.
