Givaudan Flavors is recalling close to 3,950 pounds of beef tallow products produced in Australia, as they were imported without the benefit of full inspection, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The recalled product is 50lb bags of powdered Givaudan Flavors Corporation Natural Beef Flavor Wonf with various Batch numbers such as DV00130741, DV00130967, DV00134737 and DV00136669 on the label.
Manufactured by York Foods in Australia, the beef tallow products were imported through Chicago.
FSIS said that the beef tallow was used in producing the powdered beef flavor which was then distributed for further processing to locations in Ohio and Texas.
The recall was initiated after the FSIS discovered that the importer did not present the products for USDA inspection at the US point of entry, during routine monitoring of imported shipments using Public Health Information System data by Recall Management and Technical Analysis Staff.
This is classified as a Class I health hazard situation which means there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
No illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of the recalled product.
