China plans to expand the number of cities limiting auto purchases in an effort to curb greenhouse emissions and congestion, Bloomberg reported. Deputy Secretary General Shi Jianhua of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said eight cities will probably introduce measures intended to limit auto sales: Chengdu, Wuhan, Shijiazhuang, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Qingdao and Tianjin. New restrictions are expected to cut vehicle deliveries by 400,000 units, or 2% of national sales. The expected restrictions could lead to a short-term boost in auto sales as consumers seek to buy before they are implemented, said Yale Zhang, managing director of Autoforesight Shanghai.
