European ErP Directive Provides Mandatory Ecodesign Requirements

European ErP Directive (2009/125/EC) provides mandatory ecodesign requirements for all kind of energy related products. Just like LVD Directive and EMC Directive, products covered by ErP Directive shall bear CE marking when they are placed on the market of European Union.

On June 26, 2012, European Union officially published Implementing Measure of ErP Directive with regard to Ecodesign Requirements of Water Pumps ((EU) No 547/2012) in the Official Journal. This Regulation provides minimum energy efficiency requirements for the rotodynamic water pumps for pumping clean water, including where integrated in other products, which are placed on the market from 1 January, 2013.

This Regulation shall not apply to:

a) water pumps designed specifically for pumping clean water at temperatures below - 10 °C or above 120 °C, except with regard to the  information requirements of the Regulation;
(b) water pumps designed only for fire-fighting applications;
(c) displacement water pumps;
(d) self-priming water pumps.

This Regulation put forward the following requirements for the water pumps:

1)  minimum efficiency requirements for water pumps;
2)  product information requirements. Several information, such as minimum efficiency index, year of manufacture, manufacturer's name  or trade mark, etc. shall be provided on the product itself, or the technical documentation of water pumps, or free access websites of  manufacturers.

This Regulation also provides the verification procedure for market surveillance purposes.
