The first meeting of the China-Indonesia High-Level Economic Dialogue was held in Beijing on January 26. Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil co-chaired the meeting, and the two sides carried out in-depth talks on implementing the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries as well as major topics on bilateral trade and economic and investment cooperation.
Both sides agreed that in recent years, China-Indonesia trade and economic cooperation achieved fruitful results. The “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping boasts extensive strategic converging points with the strategic concept put forth by Indonesian President Joko Widodo of building the Indonesia a Marine Power, providing widespread space for deepening practical cooperation in various fields and enhancing comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Indonesia.
Yang said this year marks the 65 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, and also the 60 anniversary of the Asian-African Conference. The two sides should take this opportunity to further expand bilateral trade, strengthen bilateral cooperation in major infrastructure construction and electronic power, and enhance mutually beneficial economic cooperation and common development of China and Indonesia.
Sofyan said the Indonesian side would like to join efforts with China to dig out potentials for both sides to cooperate in investment, trade, infrastructure and Indonesian special economic zones construction and enrich the contents of China-Indonesia trade and economic cooperation.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the minutes of the first meeting on China-Indonesia High-Level Economic Dialogue and a letter of intent for cooperation on power plants.
