The High Court of the southern Indian state of Karnataka issued a stay on the implementation of the regulations and some of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006.
A six-month extension has reportedly been provided to the 5 August 2012 deadline for abiding by the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
Latest ruling would reportedly affect sections of the FSS (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations 2011, The FSS (Packaging and Labeling) Regulations 2011, FSS (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulations 2011, in addition to Sections 50 to 65 of the 2006 act concerning provisions for penalties on offences.
The court acted upon a petition that deemed the regulations were impractical, particularly for small eateries and micro hotel units.
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) also recently issued a statutory advisory around issuing and renewal of current registrations following repealed orders by Food Business Operators (FBOs).
