China and Uzbekistan Sign Agreement on Jointly Building the Silk Road Economic Belt

The Third Meeting of China-Uzbekistan Inter-governmental Cooperation Committee was held in the city of Rizhao, Shandong province on June 15. Under the witness of the Committee President of the Chinese side, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of Committee of Political and Legal Affairs under the CPC Central Committee Meng Jianzhu and the Committee President of the Uzbekistan side, and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov, Agreement on Expanding Mutually Beneficial Trade and Economic Cooperation Under the Framework of “Silk Road Economic Belt” Initiative was jointly signed by China International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan and Uzbekistan Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade Elyor Ganiev.

Uzbekistan is an important country along the ancient Silk Road. The traditional friendship of Chinese and Uzbekistan people has a long history. The “Silk Road Economic Belt” initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping in September 2013 has got positive response from the Uzbekistan side and leaders of both sides have reached important consensus on jointly building the “Silk Road Economic Belt”. The two sides signed the agreement, aiming to make full use of the present bilateral trade and economic cooperation mechanism under the framework of jointly building the “Silk Road Economic Belt” , comprehensively deepen and expand the bilateral and mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, finance, traffic and communications areas, make great efforts to enhance the project implementation in commodity trade, infrastructure construction, industrial project renovation and industrial parks and to realize the integrated development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and co-building of “Silk Road Economic Belt”.
