The Prime Minister Has Announced That a New Trailblazers Project Will Be Put in Place

The Prime Minister has announced that a new Trailblazers project will be put in place to help enhance apprenticeships in the retail industry.

The Trailblazer projects have been set up by the Government to lead the way in implementing reforms to apprenticeships. Trailblazers are led by employers and involve both large and small businesses and professional bodies. They are focused on the development of new apprenticeship standards and assessment approaches.

Helen Dickinson, British Retail Consortium Director General, said: “Retailers are enthusiastic backers of apprenticeships and supported 100,000 opportunities in the year 2012 to 2013. It is an important acknowledgement of retail’s importance as an employer that the industry has been included in the second wave of Trailblazer projects and we look forward to working closely with partners and stakeholders on this initiative.

“The variety of apprenticeships available within retail is extraordinary. Ranging from craft skills like baking, to management training, logistics, digital and IT skills and people development, it’s not just about selling products. There are amazing opportunities available for long term and rewarding careers in the industry, and this Trailblazer project will enhance the programmes on offer for a new wave of retail apprentices.”

Matthew Hancock, Skills and Enterprise Minister said: “National Apprenticeship Week is designed to celebrate Apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

“We want to see Apprenticeships become the new norm for all ambitious young people, and employers who are dedicated to growing their own talent and increasing the skills base of the nation.

“I would like to thank everyone who has been involved this trailblazer for their commitment to Apprenticeships and Traineeships”
