The Head of the Department of Foreign Assistance of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said a few days ago that the MOFCOM plans to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to the earthquake disaster area of Chile as soon as possible and asks the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Embassy of China in Chile to pay close attention to the situation of the disaster and to know the assistance requirements from Chile. The head said that the MOFCOM is studying the plan of providing humanitarian emergency assistance to Chile and will participates in the post-disaster reconstruction according to the requirements of Chile, in order to help the people of Chile to rebuilt their home.
A powerful M.8.4 earthquake hit Chile’s central and northern areas on September 16, 2015, causing poor communication in some areas including San Diego, the capital, the interruption of electricity supply and the collapsing of road in some cities and towns. The small tsunami waves caused by the earthquake attacked many coastal cities of Chile, causing a certain number of causalities and the damage of the local infrastructure.
