The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute (ETIDI) has recently signed a three-year twinning partnership agreement with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) of India.    As per the agreement, NIFT would be capacitating the ETIDI enabling it to provide training to their staff and to the participants from the garment industry in the area of fashion, manufacturing and marketing on continuous basis.    The partnership is expected to boost the relations between industries of the two countries and help Ethiopia create favourable conditions to generate the necessary knowledge and human resource base for the advancement of the textile and garment industry.

According to Prem Kumar Gera, Director General of NIFT, the partnership agreement has bestowed upon NIFT an immense responsibility of creating the necessary conditions in three main phases for the development of the textile and garment industry in Ethiopia, Ethiopian Press Agency reported.    Sileshi Lema, Director General of the ETIDI, said the institute aims to fill the gaps witnessed in its effort to support factories in the textile and garment industry by working in collaboration with international partners like NIFT.

The three-year partnership accord with NIFT would significantly help to boost the capacity of the institute in many ways, Mr. Lema said.   The agreement is expected to address 17 different areas in human resource development, system design and course curriculum development, and ten new courses will be designed to train the necessary human resource for the sector.
