China government focuses on illegal imports of waste materials that carry polysilicon Nuying Huang,Taipei;Jackie Chang,DIGITIMES[Wednesday 23 May 2012]The price of polysilicon in China has been low causing many firms to shut down production.Industry sources noted that washing waste materials causes pollution problems, and polysilicon recovered from waste materials is being sold at extremely low prices. The China government is reportedly turning investigative efforts on illegal imports of waste materials that carry polysilicon.
China-based solar firms have been filing complaints accusing US-and South Korea-based polysilicon firms of dumping.China's government has yet to begin an investigation against polysilicon firms from the US and South Korea.
Industry sources indicated that due to pollution problems, the government has banned the importation of waste materials. However, illegal imports still exist.
