Beijing declared late Monday that Chinese boats are prohibited from fishing off the eastern coast of North Korea as disputes over fuel purchases broke out between the two countries, Reuters reported. The government's main website cited the Agriculture Ministry as saying that Pyongyang introduced a new policy last month requiring legal fishing operations in waters off its eastern coast to buy fuel from designated North Korean suppliers. The policy will jeopardize normal fishing operations and raises safety risks, the government said. The area is also risky given the "changeable" situation on the Korean peninsula. Fishing operations off the Western coast were not mentioned.
