Public services providers Amey has acquired 100 per cent equity in independent connections provider Nationwide Distribution Services (NDS).
NDS is one of the few firms to be granted permission to use DNOs live low voltage (LV) distribution mains for the construction of street lighting projects as an independent connections provider.
The acquisition will mean that Amey, which is involved with around 800,000 streetlights in the UK, will no longer have to work through the Distribution Network Operators in order to procure connections to the LV network infrastructure.
Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, explained, This acquisition allows Amey to deliver whole life asset management on our street lighting projects and individual schemes, which will improve planning, programming and scheme delivery and also generate time and cost savings for our local authority and highways customers.
No redundancies are expected as a result of the deal, and all 130 NDS staff will join Amey. NDSas current managing director Sean Conway will take a leading role in the expansion of the business.
