The Introduce of Telecom Towers

During the past decade the telecommunication industry has seen a sea of change occurring all over the world with the introduction of new and more efficient technologies which help in a more quality driven communication between people who need to communicate through electronic mediums.

The communications technologies have become wireless and hence have reduced the cost of laying down hundreds of kilometers of wiring which could possibly be not maintained properly. There are telecom towers which use electronic radio waves to transmit the messages from one source to the other.

Telecom towers have made it possible for people to send and receive messages or chat from far away distances and in a very effective manner. There are various types of Telecom towers which are designed for various communication purposes.

Types Of Telecom Towers

The types of telecom towers being mentioned here are specified on the basis of their designs which differentiate them from each other. The following are the types of designs in a telecom tower:

Monopole Telecom Towers - this is a tower which has 18 sides and is about 60 meter in height. The tower is made up of tapered steel sections which are 7.5 meter in height. These sections are bolted together with circular flanges and can easily handle heavy loads. Monopole Towers are mostly used for standard single cellular operator functions. Though they can also handle multiple cellular operators.

Guyed Telecom Towers - these are towers which are a single long towers fixed in the ground and are tied with strong cables. The dimensions of the cable depend on the geographical conditions in which the tower is going to be put up. Antenna mounts, lightning protection kits, platforms and other systems can be fitted on these towers. Though Guyed Mast towers are ideal for FM Radio, Television and Video Surveillance Equipments.

Self Supporting Towers - these towers are widely used for various purposes like Air traffic Control Radars, Wind Turbines, Video Surveillance Equipment, GSM and CDMA Networks and Marine Radars. Self Supporting Towers are of various types depending on their use in various geographical conditions. Type 1 - 4 legs Square Angular Tower and Type 2 Triangular Tubular Towers are two of the most commonly used towers for various telecommunication purposes. Generally these towers are designed for the heights from 20 to 70 meters and can be easily shipped in standard containers.

Lightening Protection and Earthing Systems on Telecom Towers

Earlier, to protect buildings and skyscrapers from the lightening there were lightening rods which were used to channelize the current in to the ground. But that technique has gotten older with time and was not as effective as it could only reduce the effect of the current to a very slight measure. Therefore, there have been lightening protection systems which are developed to effectively prevent the lightening from causing any kind of damage to a property or human life.

These lightening protection systems comprise of heavy earthing mechanisms which effectively work in inhibiting the current flow. Various ground terminals, bonding Connectors, air terminals, dissipater collector, a low impedance path to earth, low resistance interface with earth and plenty of connectors are involved in the efficient working of these Lightening Protection Systems.
