Dan Flavin is one of the founding fathers of light art and has been knee deep in the art light galleries since way back in 1960′s. His beginning pieces used some of the first types of fluorescent light bulbs available. As technology evolved so did Flavin’s illuminating and colorful designs.

The fluorescent light bulb’s addition of color only added flair and style to his already unique and outstanding designs. Here are just a few of his unique light/art designs. From the Guggenheim: “Employing only commercial fluorescent lights in his work, Dan Flavin devised a radical new art form that circumvented the limits imposed by frames, pedestals, or other conventional means of display. ”
