Designed by?Olafur Eliasson, this absolutely?breathtaking sculpture looks as if a tornado of light, glass and color are about to spin out of control in this museum's clean and peaceful space.?The Wirbelwerk glass and light exhibit?reopened in May of 2013?at the new?Lenbachhaus?in Munich and it?extends downward from the atrium's ceiling of the Lenbachhaus to reach a place of hovering just above visitors' heads.

Wirbelwerk's?counterpoised spirals are made of hand-blown colored-glass triangles, polished metal tubes, and a hidden light source that lights up the entire atrium. The colors and shadows?cover the surrounding walls, giving way to images of what it would be like to stand inside of a kaleidoscope.
