Bathroom Sink Plumbing Repair

When you undertake this project of repairing bathroom plumbing, it is important you do not rush into the procedure, as it may cause more work. The first step is to clean out everything which is placed under the bathroom sink and spread a towel on the bottom of the vanity, so that in case of any leakages and drips, the water will not spread into the entire vanity. Turn off the water supply to the sinks at the bottom of the supply lines. Ensure that the water has completely stopped before you remove the supply lines. Use pliers and remove the bottom faucet first.

Once you have loosened the faucet, remove the water line which is coming from the wall and clean all the threads with a towel and pat them dry. When the threads have dried completely, wrap all the four set of threads with a pipe tape. The wrap tape should be wrapped 3 times, so that all the threads are covered completely. Now is the time to thread the new supply line to the faucet, but make sure you do not cross thread. When you are done threading, repeat the same procedure on the water lines as well.

Then place a small bucket under the drain tap, to make sure, if there is water in the drain tap, it does not spill out. Start with loosening the upper nut first. Then loosen the nut on the pipe which goes into the wall and place the pipe in the bucket. It will be full of water. Now remove all the old washers and nuts from the pipes. Do not throw any sink plumbing parts, as if they are in good condition, you can use them again. However, if they are broken, you can discard them.

Now clean the pipes carefully and then dry them well. Place the large nut, with thread facing out onto the pipe, which is coming from the wall. After the nut place the washer with beveled edge out on the same pipe. Then place and hold the large nut on the drain from the sink, face down away from the sink, but hold carefully, while you are placing the washer with beveled edge down.

Then place the pipe dope around the threads of the new trap carefully. Slide the pipe over the wall and then from the sink. Then slide the large nuts to the threads and tighten them with your hands, until you are not able to tighten them any more. Using a channel lock or pipe wrench give each nut a half turn, but not more than that, else they will break. Now you have successfully completed the project successfully.

Along with these instructions on bathroom sink plumbing, there are some other instructions which are equally important. When you are going to start the project, ensure you have all the material you will need, so that you are not left stranded and have to rush to a store to pick the material. Before starting off with the project, it is of vital importance you switch the supply lines off. It is a good idea to check the supply lines by leaving the faucet running, once you have shut the valves off. If you are using plastic nuts, you may not want to over tighten the plastic nuts, as there is a possibility that the nuts may crack.
