The designer Dennis Parren has created a remarkable light bulb that mysteriously displays the different colors of the light spectrum. Appropriately named the CMYK light bulb, this colorful design casts red, blue and green colored shadows. With the use of red, blue and green LED lights and a main light source that is plain white, it will appear to be a mysterious light ensemble of colored shadows.

The white light of the CMYK light bulb works with the other colored lights to create yellow, magenta, and cyan colored shadows. Parren’s new light bulb design is a result of his previous design, the CMYK lamp. Presented at this year’s Spazio Rossana Orlandi, this light bulb is the first light bulb design that can create colored shadows with existing shades.

The video below shows his first CYMK lamp design. He had decided to create a simpler more mass marketable product with the same concept and color – light – shadow play as his CYMK lamp, something that everyone could use in many different types of fixtures. Brilliant!
