This laboratory has facilities for recording the normal as well as special parameters of the engines. These parameters include stresses, temperatures, pressures and temperatures. An Engine test area is provided also. There is an individual room which is insulated with installed instrument consoles for the test beds. Even for airflow, fuel injection equipments, stress analysis etc there is a static test area. The services also include chemistry, metallurgy as well as electronics laboratory. There is a machine shop and store also which does the testing of rig components and modifies the special engines.
The owner of this classic known as Mirrlees Blackstone is currently ALSTOM. Originally in 1977, the company was taken over by GEC - ALSTHOM and now it belongs to the diesel division. But, in the year 1998, 56% stake was floated on the Paris, New York and London Stock Exchange. The new name ALSTOM, without the earlier letter 'H' has been finalized after the recent merger of CEGELEC. Post this merger the company has been concentrating on the production of Kmajor a lot.
