Automobili Lamborghini is celebrating its 50th birthday with the limited edition Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario revealed at this year's 2-13 Shanghai Auto Show.
Just 100 units worldwide of the numbered and more powerful series Aventador will be built equipped with exclusive equipment and technology.
It's 6.5-litre 12-cylinder engine has been tweaked to deliver 15kW more power than the regular Aventador LP 720-4, lifting maximum output to 537kW, or, as the nameplate denotes, 720hp. Maximum torque is unchanged from 690Nm.
Combined with the fast-shifting ISR transmission, the anniversary model accelerates from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 350km/h – identical to that of the standard LP 700-4 model.
The front and rear of the new 50° anniversary model have been redesigned for a more aggressive stance along with the aerodynamics that have been further optimised.
The front air intakes and splitter have been enlarged and extended with small flaps set into the sides. The rear end is entirely new with a larger area of meshwork that improves engine cooling.
Overall, handling and stability at high speeds have been enhanced due to a 50 per cent increase in aero efficiency compared to the Aventador LP 700-4.
Lamborghini have developed a new paint colour for the anniversary edition, Giallo Maggio (May Yellow) as a tribute to the most preferred colour chosen by the company's customers since the Miura. It also references the founding of Automobili Lamborghini in May 1963.
Additionally, the front and rear, as well as the sills have been treated in a two-tone paint scheme in Giallo Maggio and matte black. The wheels are painted in high-gloss black to match the design.
However, the Aventador LP 720-4 50° Anniversario can be ordered is any conceivable colour through the company's Ad Personam individualization program.
Inside, the limited-run model is upholstered in semi-aniline leather in a range of colours including Nero Ade (black) combined with Terra Emilia (earthy shade of brown), which the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna – the area incorporating Santa'Agata Bolognese, the home of Lamborghini.
An alternative colour is Giallo Quercus, a yellow colour matching the exterior paint, named for the yellow oak tree in the Santa'Agata Bolognese coat of arms.
Pricing was not confirmed, but with the 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 staring at $761,500, the LP 720-4 50° Anniversario could exceed $800,000 – plus on-road costs.
