Having originally ruled out installing LEDs in its older stores because the ceilings were too high for the lights to have any real effect, supermarket giant Morrisons has started to roll out LED retrofit projects in 80 other outlets of different sizes.
The retailer went ahead with the move following trials which delivered extremely positive results, as electricity bills across shopping aisles involved in the pilot saw their power costs slashed by 53 per cent, the Grocer reported.
This is not the first example of Morrisons embracing the benefits of the energy-efficient lighting solution. In 2009, Philips announced that it had helped the supermarket chain to set a record using the technology.
In Illingworth, one of the firm's filling stations became the very first site in Europe to be 100 per cent lit with LEDs - "from petrol canopy and carwash right through to signage and forecourt kiosk including chiller cabinets", according to Philips.
The project served as an example of how the lights can be adapted for both indoor and outdoor usage, as well as of the various applications of the technology within these specific environments.
Such adaptability of lighting solutions nowadays means that homeowners can harness this flexibility in order to conceive, design and install a personalised lighting retrofit that works specifically for their property.
Those who are looking for something a little bit unique may be interested in some of the revolutionary flame effect lighting that is proving increasingly popular. Another look which is sweeping the markets is 'vintage' and 'retro', for which Tiffany wall lights have been especially designed.
Even for those who have more particular requirements - such as needing double insulated fittings as there is no earth wire - people can rest assured that advances in electrical technology mean that there will also be an appropriate solution for them.
