A specialist events company from Northumberland, Culture Creative, has branched out its portfolio by working with lighting companies, making heritage sites and stunning landscapes - already known for their natural beauty - even more picturesque by using little more than ingenious light designs.

While the company is far from uniquely specialised in that sector, director Zoe Bottrell said: "We have to keep our skill-set wide so that we can move with the fashions and where the money is." Arguably, there is money to be made from the burgeoning lighting market.

The company's success in this aspect of its work only illustrates the difference that a touch of cleverly designed outdoor lighting can make to a space, by utterly transforming it and turning it into a thing of beauty for people to enjoy looking at.

Having launched the £97 million Titanic Building with a lights show for 50,000 people, the company went on to sell out a nighttime light festival to over 12,500 visitors over five nights for East Renfrewshire Council at Rouken Glen Park near Glasgow, nebusiness.co.uk reported. It was such a success that the council has asked the show to come back for another year.

For the project - called Electric Glen - the company lit up a 1.5 km trail encircling the Victorian Boating Pond in the park, as well as around the paths near the waterfalls and the glen. It took nine people six days to install 14 km of cabling and 400 generic, moving and LED fixtures along the route, powered by three generator sets.

While you may not have a boating pond in your back garden - or waterfalls and a glen for that matter - there is no reason not to install a few pretty lights outside. These might go in flowerbeds, up creepers, along edgeways or lining paths - or could even comprise some new porch lights - to give your garden a perhaps much-needed facelift for the summer months.
