The Nissan GT-R Nismo has been confirmed for production in 2014, with the new model set to spearhead a range of high-performance vehicles from the Japanese manufacturer’s newly announced sports car division.
Based on the 404kW/628Nm Nissan GT-R, the Nismo-spec car is currently being developed by Nissan’s dedicated in-house performance team, promising to be a more powerful version of the all-wheel-drive monster, which Nissan says will become “the ultimate GT-R for the road”.
Nismo president Shoichi Miyatani kept details of the Nissan GT-R Nismo close to his chest at the opening of his company’s new headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, but guaranteed the car would be worth the wait.
“Fans can be certain we’ll be applying all of our motorsport expertise to creating a GT-R Nismo worthy of the name,” Miyatani said.
The 2014 GT-R Nismo will be sold alongside the standard car through Nissan’s specialised GT-R dealerships from next year. It will become the third model in the Nismo family, following the Juke Nismo and the upcoming 370Z Nismo.
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said it would be unthinkable to develop a range of Nismo road cars without including the GT-R.
“I can’t wait to drive it,” he said.
Full technical specifications and performance figures of the GT-R Nismo will be released closer to the car’s launch. Given the 2013 Nissan GT-R can sprint from 0-100km/h in 2.7 seconds, expect even an even more frenzied supercar killer to bear the Nismo badge.
Nissan Australia says the GT-R Nismo, along with the rest of the Nismo range, is currently under assessment for our market, but not confirmed at this stage.
Back in November, Nismo released the 2013 Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, a track-only race weapon designed to compete in GT-class categories around the world.
