Getting Energy Star Certified Is No Small Feat

Getting Energy Star certified is no small feat. Companies that work towards this accreditation (and when we say work, well its hard work and a ton of paperwork) can take years to get through some of the red tape that Energy Star requires their designers and manufacturers to follow. What a better company that CREE to gain this certification. Their high-quality, innovative energy conscious designs have already saved many commercial and residential owners millions of dollars, and a lighter overall footprint.

Energy Star states that if every American home replaced just one CFL or incandescent light bulb with a certified LED light bulb, enough energy savings would take place to illuminate 3 million homes for one year. And considering that the average home uses 30 light bulbs, thats a lot of kilowatts. To top it off additional savings would be:

about $600 million in annual energy costs A reduction of 9 billion pounds of greenhouse gas emissions per year, this is equivalent to emissions from about 800,000 cars.

"ENERGY STAR qualification can enable the Cree LED Bulbs to be purchased with an instant utility rebate delivering consumers a quality LED bulb for under $5," said Chuck Swoboda, Cree chairman and CEO, in an email to CleanTechnica. "Cree's already affordable bulb combined with utility rebates makes switching to LED lighting an easy choice for consumers."
