Apart from this, lock systems generally come in limited designs that may not suit the décor of your room and may not be compatible with the door. On the other hand, door knobs are available in various designs, patterns, and styles to cater to the myriad tastes of all kinds of consumers. So now gear up for door knob installation for your classic door.

Installing a Door Knob

Given below are some of the simple steps that would help you install a good functional door knob. It is quite easy to install a door knob. You will need following tools and materials for the same:

  • Screw Driver
  • Door Knob Kit
  • Wrenches
  • Strike Plate

Step #1: Select The Right Door Knob
This is one of the most important tasks when it comes to door knobs. The market is full of different knobs but you need to choose the one that suits your door the best. A classic glittery golden knob would look nice in the store but won't suit the door of your bathroom. So, along with the location of the door, always consider the pattern, color, and material of the door knob before buying it. Also pay attention to the lock system of the knob. If you have small kids and old people in the house then complicated locks would not be ideal for them to use. Also make sure that you buy a sturdy knob for the main door that will provide you with enough security whereas, for interior doors key less knobs can also be used.

Step #2: Remove the Old Door Knob
This step is mandatory for those who are installing a new door knob on the old door. You must obviously have to remove the old knob in order to install a new one. With the help of screw driver you have to start unscrewing the rosette or a trim. Once you remove all the screws, pull the rosette and the knob off the door from both the sides. If there are no screws to the trim then you will have to use a flat head screwdriver to remove it from the door. Now there will be one more plate known as mounting plate, which is kept in place with the screws. Remove this mounting plate too by unscrewing it. Remove it too from the door. After that also remove the strike plate from the door frame and at the end what you will get is an empty hole where the knob was situated.

Step #3: Install A New Door Knob
Now open the new door knob kit that has all the door knob parts and make sure that you know where each part will go. You have to start with a metal plate, which will hold the door latch when the door is closed. Fix this trike plate with the help of two screws. Now, fix the latch on the edge of the door with using the crews and screwdriver. After that take a mounting plate and secure it's place with the screws on both sides of the door. You can use long screws to hold the plates and overall arrangement together. It will also increase the strength of the lock system. Now finally attach a door knob in the right place with the help of screws and tighten them. Make sure to check if the knobs are functional and move smoothly before tightening the screws. And your brand new door knob is ready to use.

To install a door knob without screws you will have to buy special locks and knobs that come with no screws but they may cost you a little more. Whichever door knob you install, be assured that it enhances the appearance, function and security of the door.
