Ascent Solar Technologies Inc of Thornton, CO, USA, which makes lightweight, flexible copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) thin-film photovoltaic modules that it integrates into its EnerPlex series of consumer products, has announced the availability of its EnerPlex Surfr for Samsung's Galaxy S4 smartphone across the firm's own retail channels, including retail locations in the Denver area as well as online through www.goenerplex.com; with distribution partners coming online later in November.
Launched at the end of October, the EnerPlex Surfr for Galaxy S4 takes advantage of Ascent's ultra-light, thin and flexible solar panels and enables Galaxy users to boost their smartphones with sunlight in addition to conventional charging methods, extending usage time.
The EnerPlex case for Galaxy S4 is enabled by the lightweight, thin and highly customizable form factor of Ascent's CIGS solar cells, allowing solar technology to be integrated into what is claimed to be the thinnest and lightest solar-enabled Samsung case on the market.
"Equipped with a 2500mAh battery and solar panel for emergency charging, the Surfr for the Galaxy S4 remains extremely lightweight and retains a slim profile," says Ascent Solar's VP of product development Robert Meck.
