Tire Discounters broke the world record for the tallest tire stack with a single tire tower that reached 19.95 feet on March 27, 2014. The measurements were confirmed by an independent surveyor. Tire Discounters, in partnership with Falken tires, is celebrating the grand re-opening of its first store.
Tire Discounters Inc. celebrated the grand re-opening of its first store by unofficially breaking the world record for the tallest stack of tires with a single tire tower that reached 19.95 feet.
"We plan to show customers the great lengths that we're willing to go to in celebrating our history and earning their business," says Chip Wood, founder and chairman of Tire Discounters. "And by lengths, we mean heights. We're very excited to break the record for the tallest tire tower, right here at the location where we opened our first store."
According to Guinness World Records, the current record for tallest stack of tires stands at 19.77 feet and was set on Sept. 6, 2009, in Wiesental, Germany. Tire Discounters has applied to Guinness to become the official world record holder.
Wood, in collaboration with Tire Discounters employees and friends, built the tower out of Falken tires. "We're thrilled with this partnership with Tire Discounters," says Richard Smallwood, CEO and president of Falken Tire Corp. "We never imagined that they'd be using our Falken tires to break a world record!"
Tire Discounters has been headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, since 1976, when Wood opened a tire store in a cement block building with one bay and a pickup truck loaded with tires. Since then the company has grown to 91 locations and now offers vehicle maintenance and services as well as tires. Tire Discounters currently has locations in three states and plans to open new stores in Nashville, Tenn., in 2014.
"The re-opening of this store is symbolic for our company," says Wood. "We've always emphasized our goal to exceed customer expectations, a guarantee that started at this location 37 years ago. Now our first location has been updated to feature some of the most modern amenities in our industry, allowing our customers to visit for service and feel really good about choosing us to maintain their vehicles."
The new store design, which is being introduced company-wide, includes a more energy-efficient building, an expanded showroom, a children's play area, free Wi-Fi, and a more comfortable waiting area, all designed to improve the customer experience.
Tire Discounters operates in five markets across three states, employs more than 900 people and is No. 9 on the MTD 100.
