Philips Selecon Is to Sponsor This Year's SLMC Event in Johannesburg

Philips Selecon Sponsors Master Class

South Africa-Philips Selecon is to sponsor this year's Stage Lighting Master Class(SLMC)event in Johannesburg and Cape Town.Grant Bales-Smith,sales manager for Strand Selecon Europe, will join event host and international lighting designer,Declan Randall,South African lighting designer Mannie Manim with renowned New York-based lighting designer Richard Pilbrow completing the expert panel.

The two-day event, due to take place on 27-28 September in Johannesburg and 2-3 October in Cape Town, will celebrate the art and craft of stage lighting.

SLMC,which was first held in 2001 and then again in 2004 and 2007,returns this year with a number of interesting and informative seminar sessions as Randall explains."This year the event will focus on new lighting technologies, including LED and energy efficient lighting design.I think that it's important that we embrace this new technology, not as a replacement for conventional lighting, but as another'tool in our toolbox'.I've been fortunate enough to make use of a lot of LED recently, and I've learned some'do's and don'ts'along the way.I'm looking forward to sharing these with everyone."

At the same time Selecon will showcase the latest additions to its growing range of LED luminaires:the PLFRESNEL-1,PLPROFILE-1,and the PLCYC-1,all introduced to the market this year.

In March,at Frankfurt Pro-Light and Sound,Selecon revealed the PLCYC-1.In June,at ABTT,the company unveiled the prototype PLFRESNEL-1 and finally,at London's PLASA show,Selecon launched the PLFRESNEL-1 and the PLPROFILE-1.

"A key benefit of the PLCYC,PLFRESNEL-1 and PLPROFILE-1 is that it's no longer necessary to change lamps or colour filter,"explains Graham Eales, general manager of Philips Selecon."All luminaires combine the superior control and light quality of the conventional Philips Selecon Cyc light,Fresnel and Profile with an ability to seamlessly fade between colours.Designers now have a new high performance lighting tool at their fingertips. In addition less power consumption and no dimmer circuits make the PL range of luminaires an obvious choice for a range of applications."
