Alternatively you could have your floorboards painted with a black or white high gloss paint, or fit clean white tiles and add a bold rug with a geometric design. If you prefer carpet, choose plain white or cream – a large cream or white rug also looks simply stunning on a dark wooden floor.
Take inspiration from the east.
The minimalist style and spacious open-plan living is often associated with the east, in particular Japan. Polished wood floors and surfaces that reflect light – mirror, glass – are standard features, along with white walls and low beds.
