The GravityLight was created in an effort to wean Africa and other countries off of the use of unsafe and inefficient fuels like kerosene. In a project that has taken more than 5 years to perfect, this gravity powered light uses plastic gears, a low cost generator and bags for the counter weight. Magically these components all work together to provide a light that operates free of charge.

The light is currently in pre-production, and their plans for their first shipment are just on horizon. However once the entire project hits mass production stage they are hoping that the GravityLight will sell for less than $10, this is the equivalent to 3 months of kerosene oil in some countries.

So how does it work? This new approach to illumination only takes 3 seconds to create enough energy to power a light for 30 minutes. The bag that is received with the GravityLight comes empty, fill it whatever you have that is heavy. Hang the light from the ceiling, fill the bag, attach the bag, and let it make its descent to the floor and wah-lah. Enough energy to power the light for 30 minutes, recharge batteries, power your reading light and more. Illuminating idea!
