Michael Has Turned Old Books Into a Sculptural and Useful Work of Art for Daily Use

These pretty book lamps were created by Michael Bom of the dutch design studio Bomdesign. Michael has turned old books into a sculptural and useful work of art for daily use.

Bom believed that books are so beautiful that they need a “rebirth” after their current use becomes obsolete. He has been developing the series since 2004 and has since created 3 styles, with each one made from mainly old atlas books.

So why does Michael choose the atlas? He explains: “Everyone has an affinity with the atlas, you need it for school and after that you use it to plan your holidays or to orientate yourself in the world. I find it one of the most beautiful books to work with. The colourful pages with all the countries of the world of which everyone has their own dreams and ideas, gives the lamp extra intensity and meaning.”
