Sure Nest recreated the look of the thermostat, and they succeeded. But what's next? The smoke detector, another item in dire need of a fresh coat of paint (metaphorically of course). Their new "smart smoke detector" is capable of so much more than the average smoke detector and it looks a lot better. The sleek compact design looks as if could go almost unnoticed except for its soft glowing colored LED light center.

The new style may make you wonder if Apple themselves created such a beauty? The Pathlight smoke detector from Nest is capable of sensing when you walk under it in the dark, it then turns on a soft white light to help you find your way. After you leave and it no longer detects you, the Pathlight turns off. Using a low-power, high efficiency LED lamp that is specially set for low brightness, it will last longer and use less batteries. But don't worry it has custom settings that you can enable or disable upon setup that allows you to disengage the light.
