Electroluminescent wire or EL wire has many uses including art. EL wire is a thin copper wire that is coated in a phosphor that glows when an alternating current is applied to it. Ian Hobson took to an experimental exploration of the tree design with the EL wire. Using “several meters” Ian wound the EL wire around an actual tree branch. The results?

A wintery leafless tree with a twisted glowing blue silhouette. Oh the fun has just began with this flexible wire that can produce a 360 degree unbroken line of visible light. The EL’s thin diameter allows for flexibility and is the ideal lighting material for a variety of applications such as clothing, costumes, sculptures and so much more.
