The Drilling Machine Is Mainly Used for Drilling Holes of Varied Sizes in Any Surface Area

One of the most inevitable machining tools in any manufacturing process is the Drilling machine or the drill press. The drilling machine is mainly used for drilling holes of varied sizes in any surface area and in accurate depths. Apart from this, the Drilling machine is used to perform a multitude of other related functions such as tapping, spotfacing, reaming, countersinking, and counterboring. Drilling machines are fixed drills that could either be positioned on a stand or bolted to the floor or workbench. Their speed can be altered as desired by manually moving a belt across a pulley arrangement. Most of the modern drilling machines are technically automated and use computer numerical control (CNC) technology. As a result of this, they can be programmed as desired to produce accurate results. Drilling machines are quite often used for performing random workshop tasks such as sanding, honing or polishing, and numerous other rotating accessories in the chuck. Drilling machines could be divided into various types based on their size, speed and depth of cut and the different machining operations which they perform. The different kinds of drilling machines could be generally categorized into: Portable drilling machine, Sensitive drilling machine, Upright drilling machine, Radial drilling machine, Multiple drilling machine, Gang drilling machine & Automatic drilling machine. Portable drilling machines are the kind of machines which are usually employed in the workshop for drilling holes. This kind of drilling machine is mainly used for drilling holes on objects which cannot be moved. Portable drilling machines are operated using hand power or with a separate motor. One of the best advantages of a portable drilling machine is that all the parts of this machine are small and compact. The motor used in the machine is of universal type i. e; it can be given either D. C or A. C. power. A portable drilling machine can drill holes up to a maximum depth of 12mm to 18mm. The hole driller in a portable drilling machine has lesser width and high speeds are employed. Small drill bits are used. Some portable drilling machines also operate on pneumatic power.
