Horst Noppenberger sees more than the average eye. Most people that walk down the street will notice other people smiling and walking, whatever happens to be eye-level around them and maybe an occasional tree. Keep in mind that Horst Noppenberger is a well established architect in Laguna Beach, Calif., and he has an architect's eye. An eye that sees curves and fluidity, structure and light, and just like an artist's trained eye this can be used to create. And that is just what he did.

Horst Noppenberger & The Magnificent Play of Light Upon Surfaces

There are many well established buildings in the artsy coastal town of Laguna Beach, Calif. And aside from the past years when buildings were devastated by fires and landslides there is not much building growth. Except on a little corner across the street from the Second Reef Surf Shop and just a one hill block up from the beach, a new building has slowly began to emerge. If it was on your daily commute you may have passed it and seen a sign on the front a few months back that stated building in progress. But since then the building has changed from a square formation into well… a enticing combination of curved walls, lustrous?large glass windows and wooden accents.

This new building located at 883 S. Coast Hwy., will soon be the new home to the Obagi Skin Health Institute, and yes?Horst Noppenberger's architectural firm is in charge of this engaging?new Laguna Beach addition. So stay tuned, and if you happen to be in the neighborhood you may have the opportunity to see this modern divinity completely finished.

In a recent Chicago tribune article, Noppenberger cited that,?"One of my favorite quotes on architecture was by Le Corbusier; he said that architecture is the magnificent play of light upon surface. It's?the play of light on those curved walls on the inside as the sun begins to move during the course of the day — those shadows, that play of light, are constantly changing."
