Blades which are need to be used for cutting hard, dense and less abrasive materials (such as tiling, hard bricks, stone or old hard concrete), generally require a softer metal matrix. As this will wear down faster, replaces the worn diamonds continuously so that the blade continues to cut.
While blades which are used for cutting soft, abrasive materials (like green concrete and asphalt) must have a hard, abrasion-resistant metal matrix, so that it can retain the diamonds for a longer time.
1.Price of Blade: You must decide in advance that what is most important to you: the initial price of the tool or the cost per cut. For occasional use or smaller jobs, a low-priced tool may be used. But for regular use or larger jobs, a higher-priced tool will be more preferred as it can be less expensive to use because it will deliver a lower cost per cut.
2.Wet or Dry Cutting: There are different varieties of moist and dry diamond cutting blades available in the market. Like circular saw blades are uses for cutting dry woods or laminating floors. So, if you use this blade over the moist or wet surface, the blade would very quickly loose its sharp edged teeth, and it may also lead to serious security issues. Other type of diamond band saw blades are specifically designed for moist or wet surfaces, so it must be avoided at ant cost to use these diamond cutting blades over a dry surface. For high-speed cut-off saws, dry tools are more popular, but they are often used wet to control dust. Dry cutting tools may be used either dry or wet, but wet cutting tools must be used with adequate supply of water.
3.The Material to be Cut: Type of material to be cut is the most important factor that comes into the picture while choosing a tool. As it affects the cutting speed and the life of the tool. If you want to increase the life of tool or if want to get maximum from the tool then the tool specification must be matched with the material which will be cut most of the times.
4.Additional Useful Information: Many other factors are also important while choosing the tool like concentration and quality, the hardness of the bond, diamond size, the cutting power (torque) of the equipment; the segment and slot geometry of the steel centre, and how well the blade specification is matched to the material being cut.
5.Which type of rim to choose: Since a continuous smooth rim provides the smoothest cut, so it is used with ceramic tiles and ornamental stone. Continuous castellated rim blades or super-jointed segments have a longer life and lower cost per cut than continuous rim blades but this may produce slight chipping. While segmented blades provide the lowest cost per cut but are only used where chipping is not a problem.
