The futuristic aluminum, acrylic, stainless steel, magnets and the electronic components that make of the Concentricity 96 inch interactive light sculpture were designed and made by the New Jersey artist Joshua Kirsch. But what for?

Kirsch’s Concentricity 96 is just part of his interactive light sculpture series, currently featuring three items. Each piece follows similar concepts but differs too. The Concentricity 96 consists of 96 red and white LED arrays and LED-lit acrylic circuit boards, all of which respond to the viewer’s movements. The center handle’s omnidirectional movement is made possible via the Concentricity 96′s 12 hinged pantagraph-like linked mechanisms.
The Concentricity 96 in shown in the pictures on display at the Grand Rapids Art Prize. This piece has taken Kirsch over 800 hours, within a four year time frame to complete. On top of that Kirsch single handedly machined almost all of the aluminum and steel components by hand. Watch the video below to see it in action.
